Hmong Baskets
Sheboygan, WI
Yeng Cheng Yang makes beautiful yet utilitarian baskets. Using skills he learned from his
father, Yeng Cheng makes traditional kawm (back baskets) and hand baskets. In an innovation due to bamboo being scarce in Wisconsin, Yeng Cheng uses plastic strips to create colorful and
sturdy baskets popular for groceries, laundry, gardening and lunches. In his programs, Yeng Cheng teaches people how to make the plastic baskets. His presentations require Hmong/English translation.
