Classical Indian singing
Neenah, WI
Geetha Bhat was born in the state of Kerala in southern India. She learned classical Indian
singing from her parents, especially her father, Sadguru Sant Keshavadas. Geetha has continued to sing classical Indian music, including songs her father composed. Geetha has been an active member of
Wisconsin’s Indian community since her move here in 1978, frequently being asked to sing at events. In a public setting, she can give a performance and talk about classical Indian singing, as well as
about Indian culture. Her full repertoire includes classical songs such as ragas, spiritual songs (bhajans), chanting, and songs from popular Indian movies. She especially likes to involve the
audience in her presentations and is open to questions.
