Greek Orthodox Icons
La Crosse, WI
Constance Mahairas grew up in a large Greek-speaking family in New York. A lifelong painter
and sculptor, Connie began to write icons when she moved to La Crosse in the 1960s. Self-taught, Connie has mastered the style and technique of icon painting, a traditionally male-dominated art. In
her program, Connie speaks about the process and history of iconography. She shows samples that illustrate the points she’s making but doesn’t demonstrate the process.
