PASTIES

Filling:
1½ pounds potatoes
1 medium onion, chopped
1 pound round steak, cubed
salt and pepper

Crust:
2 cups flour
½ pound lard
just enough water to make the dough soft
2 T. butter

This recipe makes two large servings.

Heat oven to 350°.

To make the filling, mix potatoes, chopped onions, and steak. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Mix flour and lard to make the pie crust dough. Add just enough water to make dough soft. Roll out dough into two 8-inch circles. In the center of each circle, over each mound of filling. Put a tablespoon of butter over each mound of filling. Fold the circle over and crimp the edges. Place pasties on a cookie sheet and make a slit in the top of each. Bake 1-2 hours.
