George Ray McCormick

Woodcarving and Metalwork

George McCormick, a Milwaukeean since 1950, carves award winning basswood figures and low reliefs in his unique style. He also does metalworking, creating large and small sculptures from found metal. In a program, George brings a variety of his pieces and can demonstrate carving techniques. He’ll talk about his life story and his journey as an artist. He can also teach a technique class but prefers not to teach carving due to potential injuries.

Program Formats

A general presentation. Includes carving demonstration and conversation.

Upper elementary
Grades 3-5, ages 8-10

Grades 6-8, ages 11-13

Grades 9-12, ages 14-18

Adults, ages 18 and up

Microphone if in large space, table, chair. If hands-on workshop, will need clay.
